Sorry for the late post, folks. Phones have been ringing from reporters asking our opinion on tonight's OHI Plan. (For those new to the LandColt Trading Blog, OHI stands for O'Bama Health Insurance Plan.) Well, here's what we've been saying--"Where's the money coming from?"
Seriously, a reform plan is noble and kind, but who is going to pay for it. You? Me? All of us? The answer is C--all of us. It doesn't matter how extensive the plan will be, we will all pay--either directly in higher taxes or in ancillary costs due to adjustments to resources that will pay for it. I'm not even going to address the ancillary costs from a bureaucratic system...I'll save that for another time.
But, the real question for O'B is this: Why now?? After all, he's been in office for just over 200 days and is facing a dire economic environment, yet he feels the need to push this agenda through the ranks. I don't get it. Does he feel this is his one-and-only chance to get something passed because Congress will take the inevitable shift towards Republicans in 2010?!? Perhaps, maybe.
